Binny is a Mac menu bar app that puts a blanket over the Trash in your Dock when the Trash gets full. It works entirely on your Mac.
01What we collect
Binny has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and we run no servers. We never sell or share your information.
When you buy a license, Polar handles the purchase and keeps your name, email address, country and payment details, under the Polar Privacy Policy. We can see your order in Polar: your name, email address, country, what you bought and the Macs your license is active on.
02What Binny looks at
- The size of your Trash. Binny adds up how much space the files in your Trash take, or counts them, to decide when to cover it. It reads sizes only. It never opens, reads, copies or uploads the files themselves.
- Where the Trash sits in your Dock. Binny asks macOS where the Trash icon is, so the blanket lands on it.
Your settings, such as your fabric and when to cover the Trash, are stored only on your Mac. They are deleted when you delete Binny and its settings folder.
03Permissions
- Accessibility: to find the Trash icon in your Dock. Binny uses it for nothing else.
- Full Disk Access: to measure the size of your Trash. Without it, Binny counts items instead.
- Control Finder: to open the Trash and to empty it, only when you click Empty Trash and confirm.
04License checks
To check your license, Binny contacts Polar when you activate it, when Binny starts and once a day. Each check sends:
- your license key
- a one-way code made from your Mac's hardware ID, so the license stays on one Mac. Polar never sees the ID itself
- your Mac's name, such as "Sam's MacBook Air", so you can tell your Macs apart on your Polar purchase page
- the version of Binny and of macOS
Polar sees your IP address with each request, as any website does. Binny sends nothing about your files or your Trash.
05Updates
About once an hour, Binny downloads a small file from GitHub that lists the newest version. When there is a new one, Binny downloads it from GitHub too. Like any download, GitHub sees your IP address; its handling of that is covered by the GitHub Privacy Statement. Binny sends no information about you, your Mac or your Trash with these requests.
06Children
Binny is not directed at children under 13.
07Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
