01Getting started
How do I install Binny?
Download Binny.dmg, open it and drag Binny into Applications. Open Binny from there. Apple signs and checks every version, so it opens like any other app.
What happens the first time I open it?
A short setup asks for two permissions, lets you pick a fabric and choose when to cover the Trash. When you finish, Binny leaves the Dock and lives in the menu bar.
Which Macs does it run on?
Any Mac with macOS 13 Ventura or later, Apple Silicon or Intel. On macOS 26 it uses Liquid Glass.
I used Blanket Bin before.
Binny is the same app with a new name. The first time you open it, Binny brings your settings over, quits Blanket Bin and moves it to the Trash. macOS asks for the two permissions once more.
02Your license
Where is my license key?
Polar shows it once you pay. To find it again, open your Polar purchases and sign in with the email you bought with. Manage my license on Binny's activation screen opens the same page.
Where do I enter it?
At the end of setup, or in the menu bar panel. Click the Binny icon, paste the key and click Activate.
How do I move Binny to a new Mac?
On the old Mac, open Settings › License and click Deactivate twice. Then paste the key on the new Mac. One license works on one Mac at a time.
My old Mac is gone, and the key says it's in use.
Open your Polar purchases, sign in with the email you bought with and remove the old Mac from the license's activations. Then paste the key again. The same goes after reinstalling macOS on the same Mac.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 7 days of your purchase. Email us with the address you bought with and we'll refund it in full. Polar sends the money back to the card you paid with, and the license key stops working.
Binny asks me to connect to the internet.
Binny checks the license with Polar once a day and keeps working offline for 30 days. Connect to the internet and open the menu bar panel; Binny checks again.
03Using Binny
When does the blanket appear?
When your Trash passes the limit you set in Settings › Cover the Trash at: a size from 100 MB to 10 GB, or a number of items. The fuller it gets past that, the bigger and lumpier the blanket, and the flies arrive.
How do I move the blanket?
Drag it anywhere along the Dock. Let go over the Trash and it drapes back over it, or right-click it and it floats back on its own. Turn off Let me move the blanket in Settings to keep it in place.
Can I turn off the flies and the smell?
Yes. Turn off Flies and smell in Settings. You can also make the flies smaller with Fly size.
Does Binny delete my files?
No. It empties the Trash only when you click Empty Trash in the menu bar panel and confirm.
04Trouble
The blanket isn't on the Trash.
Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and check that Binny is on. If it still misses, report a bug with a screenshot of your Dock.
The size of my Trash looks wrong.
Binny needs Full Disk Access to measure the Trash. Without it, it counts items instead. Turn it on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access, then quit and reopen Binny.
Does it slow my Mac down?
The blanket stops simulating as soon as it settles. The flies keep moving at a low frame rate; turn them off in Settings if you like.
05Updates and removing it
How do I update Binny?
Binny updates itself. It downloads new versions in the background, and the menu bar panel shows Restart to update. To check now, right-click the menu bar icon and choose Check for Updates…
How do I see setup again?
Right-click the menu bar icon and choose Run Setup Again…
How do I uninstall it?
Right-click the menu bar icon and choose Quit Binny, then drag Binny from Applications to the Trash. It gets a blanket too.
